Analytics
The URL Shortener module includes built-in analytics that allow you to monitor the performance of your short links. Track visits, measure engagement, and gain insights into how your audience interacts with the links you share.
Overview Dashboardโ
When you open the URL Shortener section, the analytics overview provides a high-level summary of your link performance:
- Total Clicks -- The cumulative number of times all your short links have been clicked.
- Links Created -- The total number of short links in the system.
- Active Links -- Links that have received at least one click in the selected time period.
- Top Performing Links -- A quick view of the links with the highest click counts.
Per-Link Analyticsโ
Each short link has its own detailed analytics view. To access it:
- Navigate to the URL Shortener section.
- Click on a specific short link from the list.
- Open the Analytics tab within the link detail view.
The per-link analytics include:
Click Trackingโ
- Total Clicks -- The total number of times the link has been visited.
- Unique Visitors -- The number of distinct visitors (based on IP or session data).
- Click Timeline -- A visual chart showing clicks over time (daily, weekly, or monthly).
Referral Sourcesโ
Understand where your traffic is coming from:
- Direct Traffic -- Visitors who typed or pasted the link directly.
- Referral URLs -- Websites that linked to your short URL.
- Social Media -- Clicks originating from social media platforms.
Use referral source data to identify which marketing channels are driving the most traffic to your links. This helps you focus your efforts on the most effective channels.
Geographic Dataโ
When available, the module captures geographic information about visitors:
- Country -- The country from which the click originated.
- Region/City -- More granular location data when available.
Device and Browser Informationโ
Track which devices and browsers your visitors use:
- Device Type -- Desktop, mobile, or tablet.
- Browser -- Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, and others.
- Operating System -- Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android, etc.
Filtering and Date Rangesโ
The analytics interface supports flexible filtering options:
- Date Range Selector -- View analytics for a specific time period (today, last 7 days, last 30 days, or a custom range).
- Link Filters -- Filter analytics by specific links, splash pages, or link tags.
Analytics data is updated in real time as visitors click your links. There is no delay between a click occurring and the data appearing in the dashboard.
Exporting Analytics Dataโ
For deeper analysis or external reporting, you can export analytics data:
- Navigate to the analytics view for a specific link or the overall dashboard.
- Click the Export button.
- Select the desired format (CSV or Excel).
- The exported file will include all click data, referral sources, and visitor information for the selected time period.
Permissionsโ
Analytics visibility follows the same permission model as the rest of the URL Shortener module. Administrators can control which roles have access to view analytics data under Settings โ Roles & Permissions.
Analytics data is associated with the short link. If a short link is deleted, its analytics data is also permanently removed. Consider exporting important analytics data before deleting links.
Best Practicesโ
- Review analytics regularly to identify trends and optimize your link-sharing strategy.
- Compare link performance across different campaigns to determine which messaging and channels perform best.
- Use date range filters to measure the impact of specific campaigns or events.
- Export data periodically for backup and long-term trend analysis.
